The Ealing Art Group was
formed in 1910. The founding committee chose as their logo a satyr's
head, still to be found on a bench in Walpole park. this was later
deemed to be gloomy and was redesigned twice, in the seventies and
again in the nineties. Old programmes tell of picnics, dances and
whist drives. Sadly the demands of modern life have curtailed these
social activities, but we still have a varied programme of activities
which should appeal to anybody interested in the visual arts.
Demonstrations
and Lectures by professional artists are held monthly and provide
a valuable opportunity to observe and ask questions about their
technique. Entry to these is free to members, with a small charge
to visitors. Appreciation evenings
are a chance for members to bring work, either finished or in progress,
for friendly discussion. Studio evenings
take place monthly, on a Monday .Tuition is not given but a model
or still life subject is provided for members to work on in a sympathetic
atmosphere. All of these take place at Ealing Centre for Independent
Living,
No 1 Bayham Road, West Ealing W13 0TQ.
At
least four Open Air Exhibitions are
held during the year, and the centrepiece of the group's activities
is the Annual Exhibition, held in
September. We are always trying to improve members' opportunities
to show off and sell their work and usually manage to fit several
other shows into the programme.
Further
details can also be obtained from Ealing Diary of Events.
